Mutual Swap: a straight trade of skills

I fix your spreadsheet, you proofread my essay. How a Mutual Swap works step by step, and why it is the fairest trade on the site.

The oldest kind of trade is the simplest: you do something for me, I do something for you. On Help Barter that is a Mutual Swap.

What a swap is

A swap is two helps running at the same time. You help them with one thing; they help you with another. Each side is the same fifteen minutes, so it is a fair trade by design.

Coins in, coins out. You pay 200 Time Coins for the help you receive and earn 200 for the help you give. When both sides finish, you are back where you started — with two jobs done.

Step by step

  1. Switch on Mutual Swap in Help Settings so others can find you.
  2. On the Mutual Swap board, find somebody whose skills you need and who might need yours.
  3. Press Propose a swap. A conversation opens with both your opening messages.
  4. On the card under their message — the work you would do for them — press Interested in Work.
  5. On the card under your message — the help you would get — press Accept Help.
  6. When both of you have done the same, each presses Start work on the other's work.
  7. Do the work, mark it done, and confirm each other's.

Why swaps work so well

  • Nobody feels in debt. Both sides give and get at the same time.
  • It builds real relationships. Many members swap with the same person again and again.
  • It counts for you. Completed swaps appear on your track record, and the top swap helper each week wins a 2,000 Time Coin reward.

Swap ideas

  • Translation for logo design.
  • A mock interview for a CV review.
  • Guitar lessons for maths tutoring.
  • Product photos for Instagram captions.
